I am a Clinical Therapist with more than 10 years experience
helping children, youth, adults and families walk through the difficulties of life. My underlying philosophy is to start where each person is in his/her life. I believe that everyone is on a journey facing life’s mountains and valleys. To help each person reach his/her goals of change and healing, I will lend my expertise gathered from my experience, the wisdom I have gained from working with others and my education and training. Embedded in the way I practice is the belief that everyone is to be treated with empathy, with unconditional respect, and without judgment.
Who Do I Help?
I see children, youth, and adults who struggle with their emotional wellbeing, and/or the negative impact of life events (chronic stress & trauma to name a few). I counsel families and caregivers with the struggles of parenting and/or their own issues such as anxiety, low mood, relationships, trauma and adjustment. I am open to working with clients of all ages on their journey towards healing and thriving so that the problem does not become their life story.
What do I help with?
How do I help?
I am committed to helping each person move towards emotional wholeness with the
aid of various treatment approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT); Attachment, Self-Regulation and Competency (ARC); Solution Focused and Mindfulness Practice. I will integrate play and activites into these approaches with children and/or youth.
In the last year I have started providing family work based on Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT)– working with parents (across the lifespan) regardless of their child’s level of motivation or involvement in formal treatment, to help them make shifts in their family. EFFT is rooted in a deep and unwavering belief in the healing power of families, the essence of EFFT is to afford caregivers a significant role in their loved one’s mental health and well-being”. https://emotionfocusedfamilytherapy.org/Home_Page.html
In recent years, my specialty has included helping those who have witnessed and/or experienced trauma such as an accident, complicated loss, and/or different forms of abuse (sexual, physical, domestic violence). I have also worked with parents, foster parents, family caregivers and adopted parents of children/youth who have experienced the impact of trauma.
If you are struggling from the impact of trauma we will begin your journey right where you are. We will talk about how to cope with trauma and the associated changes and losses. We will work towards managing flashbacks, coping with intense feelings and trauma reminders, making sense of what happened, and/or other impacts. Throughout this process, we will integrate what has happened into your life story, so that the trauma does not become your life story and define who you are.
